Spain -2

Reason for tip

Six of Northern Ireland’s last seven defeats have come without them scoring and with Spain fresh from a 5-0 win over Andorra, take the hosts -2 on the handicap.

Spain vs Northern Ireland Predictions

  • Spain have won seven of their last nine matches
  • Spain have won four of their last six home games without conceding any goals
  • Northern Ireland have failed to score in six of their last seven defeats

Spain may be too strong for Green and White Army

Spain racked up a 5-0 win over Andorra with their second XI and if they play a more experienced lineup, as they are expected to, against Northern Ireland then they could be far too strong for the visitors.

Northern Ireland lost seven of their ten Euro 2024 qualifiers and only finished above San Marino in their group. They have had some improved results recently, such as a friendly win over Scotland, but on the whole they have struggled to replicate the form that saw them qualify for Euro 2016.

The squad are an in between phase with many of their veterans on the way out and the younger generation failing to prove that they are up to the task of replacing them.

They will also be without striker Dion Charles who has withdrawn from the squad with an injury.

Hosts could rack up the score

Spain looked extremely comfortable against Andorra and they may not need to get out of second gear against this Northern Ireland side. Expect a stronger team than the one they put out last time out and they should be able to overcome a two goal deficit on the handicap.

Northern Ireland were beaten 4-0 by Finland recently and a repeat of that scoreline is the correct score pick here.
