Sporting Lisbon to Win and Over 2.5 Match Goals

Reason for tip

Sporting, who have scored 87 goals in 31 league goals this season, have a perfect record of 15 wins from 15 outings at home, with 12 of those matches containing 3+ strikes. They take on the team with the worst defence in the Primeira Liga, Portimonense, who have also lost seven of their last ten on the road.

1/4odds when tipped

Sporting Lisbon 3-0

Reason for tip

Sporting have scored 3+ goals in eight of their last ten at home, including a 3-0 victory over Vitoria Guimaraes last time out. Portimonense have conceded at least three in four of their last 11 outings, including 3-0 losses to Porto and Estrela.

Sporting Lisbon vs Portimonense Predictions

  • Sporting have won six of their last eight outings
  • Portimonense are on a run of seven defeats from their last ten away fixtures
  • Nine of the last ten Sporting games have contained 3+ goals

Title within grasp for Sporting

A 2-2 draw against Porto last weekend brought to an end a run of four successive wins for Sporting, but it means they will lift a 20th Portuguese crown if they come out on top in this fixture and Benfica lose to Famalicao on Sunday.

It has been a terrific season for Rúben Amorim’s side, plundering 89 goals in just 31 matches, 26 of which have ended in victory.

And their record at Estádio José Alvalade is spotless; 15 success from 15 attempts, with a dozen of those games containing at least three goals.

Visitors need points themselves

That is not good news for opponents Portimonense, who have suffered seven defeats in their last ten away games and sit in the relegation play-off place ahead of this round of matches.

Worryingly, they have conceded a league-high 37 goals on the road, while the 66 strikes they have conceded in total is more than any other team in the division.

Paulo Sérgio’s side will therefore have their backs against the wall as they go in search of vital points, but a run of one win in twelve inspires little confidence.

I predict that Sporting Lisbon will win this game with 3+ goals in the match, selecting 3-0 as a correct score prediction.
