Stenhousemuir vs Aberdeen Predictions

Stenny put in a gutsy performance at Pittodrie two weeks ago as Mark McGuigan’s equaliser forced a replay against Aberdeen. It was a great display as they dug in for the draw but one that has been few and far between at Stenhousemuir recently as they had lost four of the five matches ahead of that game. This result has bolstered the team’s confidence though as they won at the weekend. They managed to beat Airdrie 1-0, who are 11 points ahead of them in 5th. Another gutsy performance against a team much stronger than them has raised the spirits at Ochilview, with this win lifting them to within a point of safety. This was also Stenny’s first home win since November, so has the Aberdeen draw caused them to turn over a new leaf?

Stenhousemuir have only kept one clean sheet since October, but this came at the weekend so they should go into this Aberdeen clash with a degree of confidence.

Despite the Dons’ weak performance at Pittodrie a few weeks ago, they are still a fantastic side and should come out the better of the two in this game. They drew 0-0 at the weekend but this was against title chasing Kilmarnock in a very even match. Aberdeen faced one of the best teams in Scotland here but showed their quality by matching them in a scoreless draw. Aberdeen have been in scintillating form recently with just one loss in their last nine matches, against Celtic in a narrow 3-4 defeat.

They have scored 16 goals in their last seven matches and recently signed Greg Stewart on loan from Birmingham, who is already the fifth top scorer in the league, following a successful first half of the season on loan at Kilmarnock. This signing has added to their clinical strike force led by Sam Cosgrove. The big striker has scored nine goals in his last nine matches and has shown little sign of stopping, with him scoring twice against Hamilton last week. He couldn’t net at the weekend against a resolute Kilmarnock but he should get back on the score-sheet here against some pretty weak opposition.

Stenhousemuir have shown improvement recently but their 1-1 draw with Aberdeen was more to do with their opponent’s complacency than their quality. As a result, we can’t see anything other than an away win here. Aberdeen have been fantastic in attack recently and with them putting three past Hamilton last week, we’re backing a similar result here. Aberdeen have won their four last away matches, conceding just twice and scoring eight times. Stenhousemuir will be right up for this at home but they don’t have a great record at Ochilview, so we’re going to back a 2-0 win for Aberdeen.
