Stoke City vs Wrexham Predictions
- Stoke have only lost two of their nine league games
- The Potters’ last six matches have gone under 2.5 goals
- At least one of the sides failed to score in four of Stoke’s last six home games in the Championship
Potters’ defensive solidity key
Wrexham have only won two of their nine games on their return to the Championship and they may fall to their fourth defeat of the campaign when they visit Stoke, who have had a solid start to the new season.
Mark Robins’ men are fifth and sport the best defensive record in the division, conceding just six times in nine games.
The Potters have only suffered two defeats as a result of their solidity, something that cannot be said for Wrexham.
Phil Parkinson’s side have conceded 15 times and their expected goals allowed of 16.7 is the third-worst in the second tier.
They may have played out three stalemates in a row but they have only kept one clean sheet so far this season, in a game in which they allowed 1.9 expected goals, so their issues at the back could be a problem once more here.
Stoke are fancied to edge a narrow win to continue their progression under Robins, who is once again showing that he may well be the most underrated manager in the league.
The hosts’ last six games have all gone under 2.5 goals so a 2-0 win for the Potters is the correct score selection.
