Sunderland vs Ipswich Predictions
- Sunderland are without key forward Ross Stewart.
- Ipswich have momentum after winning promotion.
- Sunderland scored in 16 consecutive home games at the end of last season.
Ipswich can make an early statement
Ipswich were promoted from a red-hot League One last season and the Suffolk side had a squad that was probably capable of challenging in the Championship last term.
Kieran McKenna is a young and progressive manager and the 37-year-old has added Geroge Hirst and the excellent Jack Taylor to a talented squad. Taylor was fantastic for Peterborough last term and the midfield man looks more than capable of making the step up to the Championship.
Sunderland made the playoffs last season and the Black Cats will be looking to at least match that effort this term. Experienced manager Tony Mowbray has made some interesting signings, but Sunderland need more goals and star forward Ross Stewart is not yet fit to return.
Ipswich look to have a serious chance of making it back-to-back promotions and they can put down a marker with an opening week victory at Sunderland.
A 2-1 win for the visitors is the correct score prediction as Sunderland managed to score in each of their final 16 home games last season, while Ipswich scored at least two goals in five of their final six trips last year and exactly two in three of those.
