      Sunderland vs Wolverhampton Predictions

Seasons don’t come much more contrasting than the ones Sunderland and Wolves have just endured. It’s has been a wonderful campaign for the Molineux men, who will once again be gracing the Premier League stage next term. They need just a point here to reach the magic 100 figure and it would be a fitting way for their season to end.

Sunderland meanwhile are going to finish a league campaign with less than 40 points for the sixth season in a row. To fail to reach that mark in the Premier League is one thing but you have to be pretty poor to not get there in a 46-game Championship season and it will be League One for the Black Cats next term.

If there is some light on the horizon, it comes in the form of a takeover bid led by Stewart Donald, which should at least allow the club to start from a clean slate next season. It will be without Chris Coleman that they do that. The Welshman left his job last weekend having failed to keep the Black Cats up so it promises to be a very busy summer on Wearside as the club gears up for third tier football.

The very obvious gulf in quality should ensure that Wolves win this game. 59% of Sunderland’s home game this term have ended in defeat while Wolves have won 64% of their away games. They have more than enough quality to slice this Sunderland defence open and win the game with a bit of breathing space.

However we probably shouldn’t expect a massacre. Sunderland performed pretty well in their first game since relegation, only losing 2-1 away to in-form Fulham. None of their last 5 games have seen them lose by more than a goal while Wolves have often settled for getting the job done on the road.

Of their 14 away wins, 10 have come via 1-0, 2-0 or 2-1 margins. Only 23% of their away fixtures this term have produced over 3.5 goals in total and the most likely outcome here may be another professional Wolves performance and a solid win but not a cricket score. Backing Wolves & Under 3.5 Goals could therefore be the smart bet.

Going for Diogo Jota to score anytime also appeals. The young Portuguese star has scored in 5 of his last 8 appearances.
