Swansea City vs Charlton Predictions
- Charlton have conceded in their last 13 Championship games.
- Andre Ayew has scored five goals in five league games and found the net at Charlton in October.
- Both teams have scored in 75% of Charlton’s away games.
- The visitors have seen over 2.5 goals in 12 of their last 15 league matches.
Missed Chance for Addicks
The visitors lost on the road once again on Monday night, with their defeat at Derby coming against an injury-hit, 10-man side. It wasn’t the greatest night for manager Lee Bowyer, although the Charlton boss is still dealing with an injury crisis of his own. They are set to miss as many as 10 players for this trip to Swansea.
That’s a great opportunity for the Welsh side, who sit just a point shy of the play-offs following their 0-0 draw with Barnsley at the weekend. With their promotion hopes being put to the test in their opening game of 2020, the Welsh side need to inflict another away defeat on Charlton.
Charlton’s Defensive Troubles
The visitors have conceded twice in each of their last four games, with defensive issues holding them back at this level. They’ve collapsed at the back, having conceded in 13 straight Championship games. Charlton have also scored in each of their last nine matches on the road in this competition, failing to keep a clean sheet in 92% of their trips overall.
The visitors look nothing like the Barnsley side who came here and battled for a point with a resolute display. That performance ended Andre Ayew’s great form, although the Ghanian still has five goals in five games for his club after some excellent form.
He should fancy taking on this Charlton defence, especially after scoring in a 2-1 victory at the Valley in the reverse fixture. We expect him to add to his impressive scoring run against a defence which can’t seem to keep a clean sheet.
All-round Defensive Issues
The Addicks come here having shipped two goals in eight of their last nine away trips, so are likely to suffer against this Swansea attack. However, the visitors have been handy going forward this term. Lyle Taylor picked up another goal in the defeat at Derby on Monday, with both teams scoring in seven of Charlton’s last eight away games.
The visitors have seen both teams score in 75% of their away trips this term, while Swansea have just two clean sheets in their last 10 home matches. The Welsh side have conceded in 77% of their matches at the Liberty, while Charlton have found the net in 83% of their trips. We expect them to get another goal here, with both teams to score our pick in this clash.
With Charlton conceding exactly two goals in eight of their last nine, we expect them to suffer against Swansea here. The Welsh side already won the reverse meeting, while Charlton’s run of four defeats in five away – including three 2-1 losses – suggests the visitors will struggle here. We are going with a 2-1 home win for the Swans, who have won by a single goal in 70% of their league victories this term.
