Both Teams To Score

Reason for tip

Sweden, who have only failed to score in one of their last ten matches, have seen both teams score in six of their most recent nine outings. Belgium meanwhile have only kept four clean sheets in 16 fixtures, with both teams netting in four of their last six games on the road

Draw 1-1

Reason for tip

Sweden have lost just two of their last 16 outings on home soil, but have conceded exactly once in three of the last six, including a 1-1 draw with Slovenia. Belgium meanwhile have conceded exactly once in three of their last six outings, including two 1-1 stalemates – both against Wales

Sweden vs Belgium Predictions

  • Sweden have scored in nine of their last ten matches
  • Nine of Belgium’s last 13 outings have seen both teams net
  • Only two of Sweden’s last 16 home fixtures has ended in defeat

Can Sweden pull off an upset?

Not many would fancy Sweden to get a win against Belgium’s so called ‘Golden Generation’, but they are a tough team to beat on home soil, where they have lost just twice since September 2020.

Janne Andersson’s side are particularly strong in front of goal, unsurprisingly given Newcastle’s Alexander Isak leads the attack, and they have actually netted in nine of their last ten matches.

However, both teams have also scored in six of of their last nine outings, highlighting a few defensive frailties that will surely be tested by a strong opposition front line.

A new era for Belgium

Whereas Sweden didn’t qualify for Qatar 2022, Belgium went into the World Cup as dark horses to lift the trophy, only to go crashing out at the group stage having accumulated just four points from three games.

That led to the sacking of Roberto Martinez, and means Domenico Tedesco takes charge of the Red Devils for the first time, looking to sort out a defence who have kept just four clean sheets in their last 16 games.

Ten of those fixtures have seen both teams score, including four of their last six on the road, so they are strong at the other end, where the likes of Kevin de Bruyne will be a constant threat.

I predict that both teams will score in this game, but it is hard to separate the two sides, especially as Belgium enter their new era, so 1-1 is my correct score prediction.
