Sweden vs Spain Predictions

  • Both teams have scored in eight of the last 11 Spain competitive matches.
  • Spain have drawn six of their last eight away games.
  • The last two meetings between the sides have finished in a draw.
  • Spain have not kept a clean sheet outside of their home country since October 2020 (seven games ago).

Stubborn Swedes can resist Spanish striplings

Spain have an exciting group of young players coming together that might just have the potential to win another major title one day, but they may not yet be good enough to beat Sweden away for the first time.

As an attacking force, they looked unplayable at times during the Euro 2020 Finals – scoring five goals apiece against Slovakia and Croatia – and only failed to register in one of their six matches.

Tellingly though, the game they drew a blank in was against Sweden, who have proved tough opponents for La Furia Roja down the years.

Spain have won six of their 14 total meetings with the Blue and Yellow, four of which were at home with the others at Argentina 78’ and in the 2008 European Championship Finals.

Janne Andersson’s side were fortunate to get a 0-0 draw in the summer as the Spanish finished with exactly double their own expected goals probability, but that result should give them the confidence to deploy the same gameplan again.

It won’t be pretty, but they were still able to create one big chance from just 89 completed passes in the 90 minutes – almost a tenth of what their opponents produced for their five big opportunities.

The fact that Sweden could create that much speaks much about Spain’s defensive record on their travels as this team has not kept a clean sheet outside their home country in the last seven games, which includes trips to Georgia, Switzerland and Ukraine.

The likelihood of both teams scoring on Thursday offers top value too with eight of the last 11 Spain competitive matches seeing this bet land (although only five of the last ten for Sweden).

And given the fact that Spain have drawn six of their last eight away games, our preference in the correct score market is for the 1-1 result.
