Swindon vs Grimsby Town Predictions
- Swindon have won three of their last five and remain at the top of League Two on goal difference.
- Grimsby Town are unbeaten in five, winning three of those and are currently 15th.
- Swindon have scored 57 goals this season, 24 of those coming from Eoin Doyle.
- Grimsby have scored 38 times but 11 of those have come in their past five matches.
Can Swindon take another step towards automatic promotion?
Swindon had a little blip at the very beginning of 2020 which cost them a bit of ground at the top of League Two but they’ve responded well and whilst they now only lead on goal difference they still remain the team to beat this season. They’ve won three of their last five games and have put themselves in a position where they are favourites to be in League One next season.
Swindon are the second highest scorers in League Two, scoring 57 times at an average of 1.72 goals per game. Their defensive form is on par with the other sides chasing the title this season and has cost them a bigger lead at times this season but they’ve conceded just three times in five games and look to be back to their best.
Can Grimsby continue a late playoff charge?
Things looked pretty desperate for Grimsby Town at one point this season but the arrival of Ian Holloway as manager sparked the side into life and they’ve now gone five games unbeaten. They are 11 points off the playoff places but with their form and a couple of games in hand for the team there is an outside chance they could finish in the top seven.
The team struggled for large periods of 2019 and they’ve only scored 38 goals this season but since Holloway led them on their unbeaten run they’ve scored 11 goals in five games, a rate of 2.2 goals per game. Defensively they’ve been pretty sound, conceding 40 times, the same amount as 3rd placed Crewe.
Which side wins out at the County Ground?
These two sides are both in pretty decent form and will be looking to continue the momentum they are growing but it’s hard to bet against Swindon this season, especially now they have talismanic striker Eoin Doyle back in their ranks. We’re predicting Swindon will come out winners of this tie and with their odds hovering around evens there is good value in backing them.
The scoreline is an interesting one as both teams have shown they have the ability to score goals. The one thing that separates the two sides however is a genuine, consistent goalscorer. Swindon have two in Doyle and Yates and that should be the difference in this match as we’re backing Swindon to run out 3-1 winners.
