Tenerife vs Lugo Predictions
Lugo make one of the longest trips in Spanish football this Sunday as they travel from the Northwest of Spain to the Canary Islands for their Segunda Division clash with Tenerife. They don’t have a good record on the island but will be a bit more optimistic about their chances this time around with their hosts languishing at the bottom end of the division.
It’s just 7 points from 8 games so far from Tenerife. They are the only club in the division to have already sacked their coach, with Joseba Etxeberria departing in the middle of last month. Things have improved slightly under José Luis Oltra. Their only win of the season came under him at home to Cadiz but they do still come into this match following a heavy 4-1 defeat at Mallorca.
These two sides finished together in mid-table last term with just one place separating them. However Lugo also look to have regressed slightly over the summer. They are one point and one win better off than their opponents but do also come into this one following a defeat, a 2-1 loss away to fellow strugglers Elche last time out.
Defeat for either side here would most likely see them end the day in the drop-zone so they will both be keen to avoid that fate. Tenerife really need the win though and the head-to-head certainly suggests they will get it but they are perhaps a bit short at 8/11 to confidently back in the Full-Time result market, given they have only claimed one victory in all competitions this term.
Going for a low-scoring match may be the better ploy here. Neither side are playing with much confidence or conviction in the final third. 75% of Tenerife games this term have produced under 2.5 goals in total while they average just 0.88 goals per game. Lugo’s goal-scoring record is only marginally better and 75% of their away league games have also produced under 2.5 goals.
A scrappy game between two struggling sides is likely and backing Under 2.5 Goals could be the smart move. If you fancy a correct score bet, going for a 1-0 Home Win is perhaps the best option. That was the margin of Tenerife’s only other victory this season and 2 of Lugo’s last 3 away league defeats have also been by a 1-0 margin.
