Both Teams To Score

Reason for tip

Both of these sides looked shaky at the back in their openers last weekend and the goals could flow on Saturday. All five of Ange Postecoglou’s games in charge have featured goals at both ends and Manchester United, who were lucky to keep a clean sheet against Wolves, have scored at least twice in each of their last five meetings with Spurs.

Draw 2-2

Reason for tip

The last meeting between these sides ended 2-2 in North London in April and Spurs played out another 2-2 draw against Brentford in their opener last weekend. Manchester United are unbeaten in their last five meetings with Spurs and have scored at least twice in all of them.

dos Santos Antony To Score Anytime

Reason for tip

Antony was Manchester United’s most threatening attacker last weekend as he had three shots on the Wolves goal and generated 0.49 expected goals. He could flourish against a Spurs back line that likes to push the fullbacks up.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Manchester United Predictions

  • Manchester United have scored at least two goals in each of their last five meetings with Spurs.
  • Both teams have scored in all five of Spurs’ games under Ange Postecoglou.
  • Manchester United are unbeaten in their last five meetings with Spurs.

New dawn at Spurs

A new era began for Tottenham Hotspur last weekend as Ange Postegoclou took charge of his first match without the departed Harry Kane, yet the performance was still a vast improvement over last season.

Spurs looked threatening from the outset in their 2-2 draw with Brentford and, while both goals came from defenders in the end, there were plenty of positives to take from their new attacking setup.

Attackers flourish but defensive issues evident

James Maddison, who provided the assist for both goals, was fantastic in his debut and Son Heung-min, Dejan Kulusevski and Richarlison showed signs of promise.

However, they struggled defensively as Brentford carved them apart on the break time after time, which is something Manchester United attackers will be looking to take advantage of.

United ride their luck in opener

The Red Devils took all three points in their opener but the performance was subpar at best, with Erik ten Hag’s side lucky to keep a clean sheet against a rejuvenated Wolves attack and struggling against a tightly-knit back line.

The last meeting between these sides ended 2-2 in April and, while a lot has changed in the four months since that draw, I’m expecting a similar result on Saturday.

Expect goals in North London

Both sides looked poor at the back in their openers and both possess attackers that have the quality to punish lacklustre defending, so both teams to score looks a solid selection.

I also fancy a repeat of April’s draw at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Manchester United have scored at least twice in each of their last five meetings with Spurs and Postecoglou’s men drew 2-2 in their opener, so that is my choice for a correct score prediction.

All three combined goals from these two sides were scored by defenders but Antony looks of interest in the anytime goalscorer market. He was Manchester United’s most threatening attacking player, having three shots on goal and generating 0.41 expected goals. He could wreak havoc against Spurs’ advanced full backs.
