Tip Reasoning

Having won both of their last matches, Monaco have put themselves in the driving seat as far as qualifying for the Champions League goes. If Leonardo Jardim’s take a point from this final match, then they will once again be plying their trade in Europe’s premier competition next season. After wins against St. Etienne and Caen, the visitors will fancy their chances against a home team who’re already down and out.

Unfortunately, Troyes’ stay in Ligue 1 looks as though it will be a brief one. Despite been promoted from the second division at the end of last season, having been relegated from Ligue 1 at the end of the 15/16 campaign, Troyes could be heading back down to the second division. At times, Jean-Louis Garcia’s men have been able to compete, and they have just about stayed in the fight almost right until the end, but just a draw away at Montpellier last weekend means that their fate is now out of their hands. In theory, depending on how Toulouse get on, a draw could be enough for Troyes, though at the same time, a win may not even be enough, such is the nature of their current predicament.

Some matches just scream goals, and this is one of them. Monaco don’t need to go crazy, they only need a point, though their style has never been one where defence comes first. The visitors will go into this match with no fear and will get on the front foot. Against a Troyes team who’ve already been relegated, the offensively strong visitors will back themselves to score plenty of goals.

Scoring goals is what Leonardo Jardim’s side is all about. They play at a fast tempo and are always looking to get forward, even when playing away from home. The visitors come into this match having scored in each of their last eight away matches in Ligue 1, scoring an impressive total of 17 goals during that time. However, by deploying such an attacking style, Monaco are often let open at the back. The hosts aren’t the best team in the league, but they could easily profit on the break against a visiting team who’ve conceded at least once in all but one of their last eight on the road.

Troyes know that they probably need to win to stand any chance of playing in the top division next season, so they’ll be keen to put in a big effort. What’s more, the hosts, for all their problems, have started to score a few goals at home of late. They notched three time against Caen in their most recent game at Stade de l’Aube, while they will also be buoyed by the fact that they managed to breach Marseille’s rear-guard before that.

The catalyst for goals on Saturday could simply be the fact that both teams must have a go. Monaco will likely make this an open game by getting forward right from the first whistle and thus both teams are backed to profit offensively. With ‘Over 2.5 Goals’ landing in seven of their last ten combined, alongside ‘Both Teams to Score’ landing in seven of those ten also, ‘Over 2.5 Goals & Both Teams to Score’ gets the nod ahead of what should be a fast-paced, end-to-end encounter.
