Twente vs Almere City FC Predictions
We’re ten games into the Eerste Divisie campaign, and a difference of just three goals is all that separates 3rd placed Twente and 4th placed Almere City as they prepare to face off at De Grolsch Veste this Friday evening. Twente will be favourites to come out best with home advantage in their favour, and the Enschede outfit will be confident of stealing a march in the promotion race after blitzing Jong Utrecht 1-6 on the road last week.
Marino Pusic’s men were of course expected to see off the Utrecht Reserves on match day ten, but the manner of their success was very impressive considering their opponents had kept clean sheets in their two previous home games.
It only took 11 minutes for Twente to break the deadlock from the penalty spot through Tom Boere, and they went onto run riot thanks mainly to excellent double salvos from Javier Espinoza and Jars Oosterwijk.
The result and performance was a perfect reaction to a shock 0-1 defeat at home to MVV on match day nine, and Twente are well placed in all after ten outings with 20 points on the board – just three behind current leaders Go Ahead Eagles.
Almere City have posted the same tally from their fixtures thus far, but Michele Santoni’s men come into this encounter on a low ebb after being beaten 0-1 at home by Go Ahead last week.
City were joint top going into that game and will have been confident of taking the outright lead at Yanmar Stadion, so the result could prove to be a real set-back for them in the weeks ahead.
With only one automatic promotion spot available in Eerste Divisie, bouncing back after a loss is absolutely crucial and it will be interesting to see how Almere react at De Grolsch Veste.
City should still be feeling pretty good about themselves having notched three wins and a draw from their four away outings thus far in 2018/19, and they’ll know Twente are there to be got at after their defeats to MVV and Oss in Enschede this term.
We just have a feeling though that Twente can start to string a real run together now, and Marino Pusic must be smiling considering his team are only three points off the pace despite not playing all that well prior to their romp in Utrecht on match day ten.
This is first ever meeting between the two sides and Almere City, still a relatively new club following their formation in 2001, should be relishing testing themselves against the former Eredivisie champions.
But we think this could turn into another miserable evening for the visitors who could conceivably drop out of the top five with a second defeat in as many weeks.
We anticipate an open contest based on the fact Twente have conceded in all but one of their league games and Almere have netted 11 in their four away fixtures, so we’re going for a Twente victory with over 2..5 goals in the game, and 2-1 is our selection in the correct score market.
