USA vs Peru Predictions

Wednesday’s international friendly action features an interesting clash between USA and Peru in Connecticut. The visitors will be looking to build on their excellent performance last time by impressing against a US side very much still in transition.

With the aim of recovering from failing to appear at the World Cup for the first time since 1986, recent international breaks have shown that USA still have a long way to go before they are able to compete at the top level once again. The side did well to see off rivals Mexico 1-0 last month, but have also been outclassed by Brazil and Colombia, that latter of which coming via a 4-2 defeat on Friday.

Given there’s no permanent manager in place and Dave Sarachan remains in temporary control, it’s hard for the US to formulate any real long term plan at the moment, but the squad certainly has a youthful feel to it, even without the injured Tyler Adams and Christian Pulisic. Having struggled against South American opposition in recent outings, confidence cannot be all that high going into Wednesday’s game but those that take to the field will be trying to come up with an improved showing nonetheless.

Meanwhile, somewhere confidence certainly isn’t low is in the visiting camp, after they tore rivals Chile apart 3-0 with a great performance on Saturday. With Ricardo Gareca still in charge and the squad pretty much picking itself, the Peruvian group is a settled one and having made history in qualifying for the World Cup for the first time in 36 years, all focus is now in next year’s Copa America and further success.

Whilst they went out at the group stage in Russia, Los Incas were one of the competition’s unluckiest teams and their showings were far from disgraceful. In the last international break, narrow defeats to Holland and Germany showed the South American’s ability to compete with high quality opposition and their aforementioned win last time out serves as a further reminder of the quality they possess.

Ultimately, taking all of the account into above, it’s hard to see why Peru have been considerable outsiders for the fixture and at current odds, backing them on the Draw No Bet line looks an excellent way to play and is where our money is going.

Peru are by far the more settled of the two nations and have been excellent over the last couple of years, whilst the US are currently going through the toughest period in their modern footballing history. Without star player Christian Pulisic and coming in off the back of a leaky defensive showing, it’s hard to envisage the hosts avoiding defeat against a Peruvian outfit capable of playing some devastating attacking football on their day and we fancy the visitors to secure a 2-0 win.
