Somewhat surprisingly it’s Trinidad & Tobago who come into the final round of fixtures top of the group and already having secured qualification to the final stage. USA are not mathematically through but it would take something of a miracle for them not to make it. They only need a point to guarantee their spot in the final stage but even if they lose Guatemala, would need to make up a deficit of 12 in the goal difference stakes, which even against whipping boys St Vincent & the Grenadines is likely to be out of their grasp.

USA won’t be thinking too much about that though and, having won all of their last 10 home World Cup qualifiers, they’ll be expecting 3 points here to top the group. They won 6-0 at St Vincent last week and have scored 10 goals in their opening 2 home qualifiers of this campaign so ought to have little trouble negotiating their way through this game.

Trinidad & Tobago meanwhile booked their spot in the final group stage last week and, with 3 of the 6 teams in the final stage securing automatic progression to Russia 2018, they have a real chance of making it. They are winless in 4 outings though, with 3 friendly defeats and a 2-2 draw at home to Guatemala in their last qualifier on Friday, not exactly the perfect form to come into such a tricky game with.

USA’s home record in World Cup qualifying is second to none and it’s very hard to see them not winning this game, particularly when it is effectively a friendly for their opponents who have no real incentive to try and top the group. Trinidad do have a goal in them though and they’ve scored in 13 of their last 17 internationals, including all of their matches at the 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup in the United States, when they drew 4-4 with Mexico, the other powerhouse in these parts.

The hosts aren’t brilliant at the back and even minnows St Vincent scored when they visited the US earlier in the campaign so there looks to be value in backing USA to Win & Both Teams to Score at 7/4 here.
