Utrecht to kick-start European push?

Neither of these teams have won since February, so the form book does not reflect particularly well on either club, but FC Utrecht have been reasonably strong at home this season.

René Hake’s side have lost just three Eredivisie games at Stadion Galgenwaard, each of them to teams above NEC in the table, though they are clearly having problems defensively of late.

They have not kept a home clean sheet in seven, with both teams scoring in four of those games, and are without a clean sheet in ten at all venues – 80% of which have seen both teams net.

NEC enduring a slump

One win in eight may well have cost NEC a place in Europe, with their defence a huge worry of late as they have kept only two clean sheets in 13 outings.

They are though strong at the other end of the field, netting in nine of those outings, meaning eight fixtures have seen both teams score, including the last three on the road.

And for all their struggles, Rogier Meijer’s side are much strong on their travels than at home – winning seven of their 15 games and losing just two of their last eight away league fixtures.

I predict that both teams will score in this game, but they both look hopelessly out of form so it may well end all-square, with 1-1 my correct score prediction.
