    Deportivo La Coruna

      Tip Reasoning

These two clubs finished 1st and 2nd in La Liga back in 2002 but there is absolutely no chance of that happening again any time soon. Both sides will be encouraged with how they performed last season though. Valencia returned to the top four and they completed the not insignificant task of reaching the group stage of the Champions League in midweek despite a 2-1 defeat at Monaco.

Deportivo meanwhile narrowly beat the drop but there is a real gulf in class between these sides and you can only really see one winner at the Mestalla where Valencia are very very strong.

They won 15 of their 19 home games last season in La Liga and were only beaten once by a somewhat fortunate Barcelona side. What’s more 12 of those wins were by 2 goals or more and given they have spent €100million this summer they should be even stronger this season.

Therefore backing them to do what they did so regularly last term and win by 2 goals or more here at 11/10 is surely an excellent bet against a Deportivo side who lost at the Mestalla 2-0 in March and haven’t won on the ground in over a decade.

Deportivo pulled off the great escape last season with some encouraging late season results and held Real Sociedad to a 0-0 draw at home on the opening day.

However they have still only won 1 of their last 17 La Liga fixtures and with that sort of form, you just can’t see anything other than a home win here. Valencia should be match sharp too after playing two really competitive Champions League games against Monaco and they’ve had 5 days to recover from the last one so tiredness won’t be a factor.

Therefore this could be a convincing home win and 3-0 looks like a tempting bet against a Deportivo side who don’t score many at 8/1.
