Valencia vs Granada Predictions
After safely negotiating the crucial and quite large hurdle of a Champions League play-off with last season’s Quarter Finalists Monaco, things haven’t quite gone to plan for Nuno Espirito Santo and his team. Perhaps there is an element of their new players still bedding into this side but their form is still something of a mystery, especially at the Mestalla where they were so strong last year.
Their two home games so far in the league have resulted in disappointing draws against Real Betis and Deportivo La Coruna while they were beaten at home by Zenit in their opening Champions League group game. There was another defeat on Tuesday away to Espanyol in the league and a return of 6 points from 5 not particularly difficult games is highly disappointing for a side who made the top four last year.
However Valencia are sure to improve on their current struggles as there is just too much quality in the squad for that not to be the case. It’d also be a little premature to ring the alarm bells given they have only lost 1 of their last 22 La Liga home games, winning 16 of them.
They have recent memories of a convincing home win against Granada given they cruised to a 4-0 win at the Mestalla when the sides met in late April. The Andalucian side haven’t been playing well this season and have lost 4 of their 5 games so far and they were hammered 3-0 at home on Tuesday by a Real Sociedad side that had previously been struggling badly for goals.
Therefore you have to fancy Valencia to come good here at last and they won’t need to even be at their very best to put some distance between themselves and Granada. At 13/10 you can back them to win by 2 goals or more and that looks like outstanding value given the gulf in class between the sides and what happened last time they met.
It’s unlikely to be as convincing as that given Valencia have been some way short of their best and it may take some time for them to build up to that again but a 2-0 home win should be well within their grasp and you can back that to be the case at 6/1.
