Venezia vs Lazio Predictions

Lazio’s unconvincing travels

Lazio have won just twice on the road in this Serie A season, at Empoli and Sampdoria, the former coming way back on the opening day. Although Maurizio Sarri’s team comfortably saw off Genoa 3-1 on Friday night, they remain erratic, particularly on the road. Their last six away league games have all featured over 2.5 goals, and only Spezia and Salernitana have conceded more on their travels, with Lazio shipping 20 in just nine away trips.

Venezia, meanwhile, have seen both teams score in each of their last four games, and have only conceded two goals fewer than Sarri’s men. Although they are without a league win since mid-November, Venezia have troubled plenty of the big boys this term, earning a 1-1 draw against Juventus and a thrilling 3-2 win over Roma in Venice.

69 goals have been scored in Lazio’s 18 Serie A contests this season, the highest such tally in Italy’s top-flight, and backing goals may be the way to go again if you’re having a play on Wednesday’s clash.

Thrills and spills likely in Venice?

Lazio’s away defeats at Verona, Bologna, and Sassuolo this term make it difficult to confidently back them away from the Stadio Olimpico. Both teams to score and over 2.5 match goals, however, given Lazio’s defensive paucity and attacking flair, seems a far better play.

While I’d back Lazio to earn an entertaining 3-1 victory if pushed for a correct score prediction, the inconsistency shown by Sarri’s team away from Rome looks likely to hamper their European challenge, and makes it difficult for punters to confidently back them, at what is a difficult ground to visit.
