Opportunity for hosts

After a terrible start to the new campaign, Villarreal have the chance to turn things around when they host Alaves on Sunday evening. The home side have claimed just eight points from their first nine games, the same number as their weekend opponents.

However, while the pair sit level on points just outside the drop zone, the visitors are in dire straights in front of goal and that can allow a Villarreal side who ship too many goals to recover from their poor start.

Alaves to blank again

Alaves haven’t won any of their last five La Liga matches and they have failed to find the net in three of those five. The visitors also head into this having lost their last four visits to Villarreal, which should make them vulnerable in this clash.

The visitors also have the lowest shot conversion rate in LaLiga this season, at a paltry 5.65%. Their issues in front of goal have been clear of late, with two of their last three goals being scored by opposition players.

Villarreal have scored in all but one of their games this term and that alone should be enough to stop an Alaves side who have lost to nil in three of their four away games this season.
