Both Teams To Score and Over 2.5 Match Goals

Reason for tip

Both teams have scored in 16 of Villarreal’s last 20 league matches and they’ve made a high-scoring start to the campaign, with seven goals across their first two matches. Eight of Celta’s last 10 have seen both teams score, with over 2.5 goals landing in nine of their last 10 in the league too.

Villarreal 2-1

Reason for tip

Celta lost three of their final four away games last term and they could struggle at a Villarreal side who are fresh from a victory at Sevilla. The hosts have won their last three at home to Celta, so back them for a 2-1 victory.

Villarreal vs Celta Vigo Predictions

  • Both teams have scored in 16 of Villarreal’s last 20 league matches
  • Both teams have scored in eight of Celta Vigo’s last ten La Liga games
  • Both teams have scored in six of the last seven meetings

In-form duo can put on a show

Celta Vigo have continued where they left off last season, having succeeded in their opening two La Liga matches over Alaves and Valencia, but Villarreal have also hit the ground running.

Celta Vigo won four of their final seven league games last season and this campaign has started with home victories over Alaves (2-1) and Valencia (3-1).

However, Claudio Giraldez’s side won only four of their 19 away league matches last term and improving their road record will be the next challenge.

Therefore, making it three wins from three may be tough, especially given Villarreal have also come out the blocks firing.

The Yellow Submarine shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw at home to Atletico Madrid in their opening assignment before Friday’s 2-1 win at Sevilla, where former Newcastle forward Ayoze Perez struck the winner deep into stoppage-time.

Free-scoring encounter on the cards

So, with both teams scoring in each of their opening two outings, backing a high-scoring contest should appeal most.

Both teams have now scored in 16 of Villarreal’s last 20 La Liga matches while the same bet has obliged in eight of the Sky Blues’ last ten league outings.

The net has also bulged at both ends in six of the last seven rivalries between these sides and last season’s two meetings finished 3-2 to the home side.

That means both teams to score and over 2.5 goals could represent the best value but, given Celta’s poor away form, Villarreal may edge proceedings 2-1.
