Rennes can get a result in Spain

Rennes are yet to taste defeat in any competitions this season after eight games and they can at least avoid defeat when they head to Villarreal on Thursday.

The Spanish hosts have endured a tough start to their own campaign with five defeats and just two wins in nine games, and they will find it tough to break down Rennes’ strong backline.

Goals could be at a premium

Backing Rennes in the double chance market to either win or draw looks a good option here as Villarreal have managed just one win in four attempts at home and the French visitors have drawn all three of their away games.

However, at an odds-against price under 2.5 goals looks the best bet as goals may well be in short supply.

All three of Rennes’ games away from home have seen under 2.5 goals scored and two of those have been 0-0 draws.

The Ligue 1 club have three clean sheets in their last five games, while Villarreal played out a 0-0 draw at Getafe at the weekend and have scored just twice in their last four games.

As such, under 2.5 goals is the pick and this game may well prove to be one for the purists – with a 0-0 bore draw the correct score prediction.
