Villarreal vs Viktoria Plzen Betting Tips

Both teams are in very good form having made strong starts to the new season. Villarreal top La Liga after 6 rounds of fixtures having won 5 in a row since their opening day draw at Betis. They impressively beat Atletico Madrid 1-0 at the weekend and yet again appear to have pulled off a remarkable transition having sold plenty of key players over the summer.

If the fairytale of the Yellow Submarine refuses to die, the same could be said of Viktoria Plzen who have risen from nowhere to dominate Czech football in recent seasons. Their title last year was their 3rd in 5 years and they come into this game on the back of 8 successive victories in all competitions including a 2-0 home win against Dinamo Minsk on the opening match day.

By contrast Villarreal’s only real blip this season was a 2-1 defeat to Rapid Wien in their opening group fixture and they’ll be determined to get 3 points on the board here. They made plenty of changes for the trip to Austria and could do the same again here but Marcelino will still be very much hungry for a run in this competition and any fringe players that do start will know they need to impress to stand a chance of breaking into this side the way they have been playing.

Both sides are quite attacking by nature so we should see goals here. Both teams have netted in 8 of Villarreal’s last 9 Europa League matches and Viktoria Plzen have scored in all of their last 10 games in this competition. Therefore an away goal seems likely here but Villarreal have that extra bit of quality and as leaders of arguably the strongest league in the world, they won’t be lacking in confidence.

The Spaniards scored 10 home goals in the group stage last year and should have enough firepower to win this one even if they do concede and you can back them to win but not to nil at tempting odds of 12/5.

The Czech Champions are clearly no mugs but it’s hard to see them matching Villarreal at El Madrigal for long periods of the game so consider backing the hosts to win 3-1 at 12/1.
