Vizela vs FC Porto Predictions
- Porto won 13 of their last 14 Primeira Liga away games last season, eight of those wins coming with a clean sheet.
- Vizela saw their two leading scorers from last season leave the club this summer.
- Porto won 4-0 in the corresponding fixture last season.
Conceicao’s clean-sheet machine to roll on
No club recorded more away clean sheets than Porto in the Primeira Liga last term and Sergio Conceicao’s side ought to get another when they go looking for another win at Vizela on Sunday.
After failed to blank any of their first five opponents away from the Dragao, Porto kept it clean in eight of their next 12 road trips – a defensive foundation that enabled them to clinch the title. Frighteningly for their rivals, the Dragons appear to be even stronger at the back this season after the big signing of centre-back David Carmo from Braga.
He wasn’t able to face Maritimo in Porto’s 5-1 opening-round win, but played for the reserves this week and should be included in the squad. Whether he starts or not, his presence should keep Pepe and Ivan Marcano on their toes after they allowed Maritimo to sneak a late consolation last weekend.
Vizela lost leading strikers in the summer
But while the Madeiran outfit were always going to have a go at Porto in a stadium where they have previously enjoyed success, Vizela will probably stick every available body behind the ball at home and hope to keep the score down.
Alvaro Pacheco saw his two most prolific forwards from last season sold over the summer and Vizela have only this week started the job of replacing them. Milutin Osmajic joins on loan from Spanish outfit Cadiz – where he seems to have burned his bridges after two seasons without a league goal.
It’s not the kind of signing that should worry Porto’s experienced defence and a win to nil will be expected of them on Sunday. Porto won 4-0 in the corresponding fixture last season, but the majority of their late-season away wins were classic 1-0 results – but as they performed so well last week and have Otavio back from suspension, a 2-0 correct score play seems a sensible punt.
