West Ham vs Accrington Stanley Predictions
West Ham are having a torrid time of things so far this season. They were subjected to yet another humiliating defeat on Saturday as West Brom put four past them in a 4-2 victory at the Hawthorns. They went 4-0 up against the Hammers within an hour before Michail Antonio continued his promising start to the season by pulling one back. A second goal for West Ham with 25 minutes left to play gave them hope, but they couldn’t build on this comeback and ended up losing.
This followed on from another 4-2 loss at home to Watford, where they were two goals up before a defensive meltdown let the visiting Hornets back into the game. Prior to this they had lost 3-1 at Manchester City and 1-0 at home to Astra to send them out of the Europa League.
Their only points of the season so far have come at home to Bournemouth, and even that required a very late Antonio goal to seal the three points. Since then they have completely collapsed at the back and have conceded a huge 11 goals in their last three games.
Accrington Stanley are a bit further on in their season. They have already played eight games in League Two as well as matches in the League Cup and the controversial EFL Trophy. They dispatched of Premier League opposition in Burnley in their first round League Cup tie, and more recently they have beaten Notts County and Portsmouth in League Two.
It has been a bit hit and miss for them overall this season though, and despite their recent successes they are still in an indistinct and very disappointing 11th place in the League Two table. This comes after they were just one game away from promotion last season, so they will have been hoping for a much better start to the campaign than this.
The visitors will have been buoyed by West Ham’s recent troubles at the back. Accrington Stanley have scored in eight of their 11 matches so far this season and will feel confident in their ability to get one over a West Ham side who somehow shipped four against West Brom. The hosts have kept just three clean sheets in their last 18 outings, but I can’t see the visitors keeping a clean sheet against Premier League opposition either. Odds of 19/20 for Both Teams to Score look good value to me, so I’m backing that along with a 2-1 win for the Hammers at 7/1 for my correct score prediction.
