Whitecaps have had a very disappointing season this term after finishing in the runners up spot of the MLS Western Conference last season. They have suffered numerous spells of poor form, and despite a recent resurgence, it looks like another appearance in the MLS Playoffs could be out of their reach.

They come into their final three games of the season in 8th position in the Western Conference, six points adrift of 6th placed Portland Timbers and with just nine points left to play for. They need the teams above them to slip up badly and for them to win their remaining games if they want a shot at the MLS Cup later this year.

To be fair to Whitecaps, they have started showing some higher levels of performance recently, although not necessarily in the MLS. They beat Central 4-1 in the CONCACAF Champions League in midweek to make it four wins, two draws, and two defeats in their last eight outings in all competitions.

It’s a different story in the MLS though. They have won just one of their last 11 in the league, losing six times. On home turf they have won one, drawn four, and lost three of their last eight MLS games.

Seattle Sounders are in a similar position to Whitecaps. They have had a largely disappointing season, but unlike their opponents their recent resurgence in form has involved some positive MLS results. They also have a much higher chance of claiming a position in the top six.

Seattle Sounders have won six, drawn two, and lost just one of their last nine outings, all of them in the MLS. This has put them in 7th position, but they are just three points off Portland Timbers above them and have two games in hand. The race for the playoffs is well within their hands.

Away from home Seattle Sounders have won two, drawn two, and lost one of their last five. Considering their hosts’ poor form at home in the MLS I’m giving Seattle Sounders a good chance to increase their tally here, and odds of 8/11 for a Seattle Sounders Win or Draw are excellent value. I’m also backing a 2-1 win for the visitors at 11/1.
