Wolverhampton vs West Bromwich Albion Predictions

  • Under 2.5 goals have been scored in seven of Wolves’ last nine Premier League home games.
  • Wolves scored exactly one goal in six of those nine matches.
  • West Brom have only scored one goal in total in their last four Premier League fixtures.
  • Wolves were beaten just twice in their last nine league games at Molineux.

Wolves sinking fast

After a campaign littered with disappointing results, Wolves were forced to endure another frustrating evening on Wednesday when they were turned over 2-1 by a determined Everton at Molineux.

Following their latest setback, Wanderers’ record now reads a dismal two wins from nine Premier League assignments since the start of December, and with Raul Jimenez’s goal-scoring prowess badly missed, Wolves have dropped all the way down to 14th spot in the standings.

Each of Wolves’ last two league victories came at Molineux however, and Wanderers look capable of harnessing home advantage again in Saturday’s Black Country Derby.

Big Sam’s struggles continue

It’s fair to say that Sam Allardyce’s appointment hasn’t quite had the effect that the decision makers at West Brom thought it would, and ahead of their derby clash with Wolves, Albion are still searching for a first win under their new manager.

WBA’s run of three defeats and one draw from four Premier League fixtures under Big Sam was marked by some real hammerings, and the Baggies’ embarrassing FA Cup exit at the hands of League One’s Blackpool on Saturday is certain to have sent confidence levels plunging further.

Tight game anticipated at Molineux

WBA’s attacking output under Allardyce so far has been glaringly subpar, and not even a single effort from West Brom’s haul of just three goals in five matches under their new coach was hit from open play.

The second from bottom Baggies have looked incredibly toothless in recent weeks, and having averaged a measly 2.0 shots on target per Premier League fixture since Allardyce’s appointment, we expect WBA to struggle against a well-drilled Wolves defence on Saturday.

While results remain up and down, Wolves’ defensive performances – especially at Molineux – have been decent, and Wanderers’ defeat to Everton on Wednesday was the first time in nine Premier League matches there where they shipped more than one goal.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s modest attackers are averaging just 1.1 goals per 90 minutes of league action on their own patch this term however, and with the host’s lack of thrust adding to West Brom’s paucity of quality at the top end, the under 2.5 goals market looks worth backing for Saturday’s derby.

Under 2.5 goals have been notched in seven of Wolves’ last nine Premier League home assignments, and the evidence suggests Saturday’s Black County Derby should be just as low on incident.

WBA have failed to register completely in three of their four league games under Sam Allardyce’s instruction however, and our 1-0 correct score prediction backs a Wolves team that scored exactly once in six of their last nine outings at Molineux, to just about take advantage of their local rival’s plight.

Wolverhampton injuries and team news

Adama Traore missed Wolves’ 2-1 loss to Everton with a hamstring injury and the winger remains sidelined this weekend alongside Marcal, Raul Jimenez, Daniel Podence and Jonny.

Willy Boly is still rated as doubtful with a thigh strain, while Nuno Espirito Santo could fill the gap in the final third with Patrick Cutrone.

West Bromwich Albion injuries and team news

Conor Gallagher is suspended for the Baggies this weekend, with Jake Livermore likely to come back into midfield in his place.

Injured forward Karlan Grant also misses out, as does Conor Townsend, while Hal Robson-Kanu is on the comeback trail after his broken arm.
