No matter what happens in this game, Zimbabwe have suffered elimination from this year’s AFCON tournament as even with victory, they would finish behind Malawi due to head-to-head clashes being the tie-breaker rather than goal difference. As such, their motivation for success may be waning.

The result of Zimbabwe’s campaign was no surprise really, given that they have been eliminated from their group in each of their four all-time AFCON appearances.

Compounding matters for Zimbabwe is their return of just two wins from their 14 AFCON group games to date (W2, D2, L10), which includes two completely winless campaigns.

The knockouts await Guinea

Simply avoiding defeat should be enough for Guinea to progress from the group, at least through the ranking of third placed sides. However, victory is beneficial as only that will guarantee a top-two finish, they would otherwise rely on the result of the other group game to find out their place.

All things considered, the odds on a Guinea victory at the time of writing look like a great bit of value, we are going for a low-scoring 1-0 win, as has been the case in most of the AFCON games so far.
