Chelsea -2

Reason for tip

Chelsea have won nine of their last 13 home games in all competitions and covered a -2 handicap in two of their four home meetings with Championship clubs. Meanwhile, Leicester have failed to win four of their last eight away games, including 3-1 defeats at Leeds and Coventry.

Chelsea 3-0

Reason for tip

Chelsea have won four of the last five meetings between the clubs, including a 3-0 win at the King Power Stadium when Leicester were in the Premier League. The Blues have beaten all four Championship clubs they have faced at home in 2023-24 by a combined score of 15-3, which suggests an emphatic win is possible – particularly as Leicester have conceded multiple goals in three of their last seven games.

Cole Palmer To Score Anytime

Reason for tip

Cole Palmer has scored 13 goals in 32 domestic appearances for Chelsea this season. He has been the Blues’ most consistent performer and comes into this game after a goal and an assist in Monday’s 3-2 win over Newcastle

Semi-finals beckon for Blues

Chelsea should be confident of overcoming the challenge of Leicester when they face off against the Championship leaders for a place in the FA Cup semi-finals.

The Blues will enter Sunday’s contest at Stamford Bridge off the back of a 3-2 success over Newcastle United in the Premier League on Monday night. It was a typical performance from Mauricio Pochettino’s side, who are easy to trust at home despite the occasional in-game wobble.

Chelsea create plenty of chances and waste almost as many too, but the crux of the matter is whether they can score enough to outweigh the inevitable rick at the back that allows their opponents to find the back of their net.

Chelsea have handled Championship challengers

Their record against teams from the Championship this season suggests they will because the Blues have already beaten Blackburn, Middlesbrough, Preston and Leeds at Stamford Bridge.

Of those, only Leeds may be in the class of Leicester and the West Yorkshire side made some changes, but Chelsea eventually found a way to avoid extra time.

Leicester arrive in West London in the middle of a sticky patch after winning only one of their last six games in all competitions within the 90 minutes. A defeat at faltering Middlesbrough last month set the tone for a rough sequence of results and, despite edging a 1-0 win at Sunderland early in March, they still look shaky.

Foxes can show flashes but lack belief

There is no swagger about the Foxes anymore and, despite the timing of this fixture just before the international break making it even more of a free hit, it is unlikely that Leicester light up Stamford Bridge with more than just a flash of occasional brilliance.

Enzo Maresca’s men can be forced out of their gameplan by well-drilled pressing sides and the Italian, by his own admission, does not have a Plan B. Chelsea have enough energy and discipline in their midfield to make it very hard for Leicester to initiate attacks and from there on, it could start to fall apart for the visitors.

Although they have not lost a game by more than two goals all season, this could be the day when Leicester are made to look very ordinary by a higher-quality side. Chelsea have scored three or more goals in three of their four contests against Championship clubs this term and won two of those games by four goals or more, so a 3-0 scoreline may well be possible.
