Everton vs Watford Predictions

  • Everton have won three of their four Premier League home games this season.
  • Watford have lost to nil five times in the league this season.
  • Everton have won 12 of their last 14 home games against Watford.

Toffees out to bounce back at Goodison

Everton saw their 100% home record come to an end last weekend as West Ham beat them at Goodison Park but with Watford coming to town on Saturday they will be confident of bouncing back this time around.

Despite their defeat last time out, it’s been a relatively promising start to life back on Merseyside for Rafa Benitez and their early season form – which saw them take ten points from a possible 12 – went a long way to winning the doubters over in the blue half of Liverpool.

That form has taken a bit of a hit recently, with defeats to Aston Villa and West Ham sandwiching a four-point haul against Norwich and Manchester United, but they have every chance of getting a good result on Saturday.

Goalshy Hornets set to struggle

The same can’t be said of Watford. The Hornets suffered a 5-0 thrashing at the hands of Liverpool in Claudio Ranieri’s first game in charge and the visitors have now lost five of their last seven in the top flight.

They have failed to score in all five of these defeats and Goodison Park has hardly been a happy hunting ground for Watford in the past. They have failed to win any of their 14 trips to Everton since 1983 and have lost 12 of them, so backing the Toffees to bounce back with a win is my preference.

Townsend’s purple patch to continue

Two of Watford’s five defeats to nil have been by a 2-0 scoreline and Everton have won 2-0 on two occasions, so that’s the standout pick for a correct score here.

I’m also backing Andros Townsend to continue his rich vein of goalscoring form. The summer signing has scored five goals in all competitions this season and has bagged in three of his last four outings, so he looks solid value in the goalscorer markets.

Everton predicted lineup: Pickford; Coleman, Mina, Keane, Digne; Townsend, Davies, Allan, Iwobi; Gray; Rondon

Watford predicted lineup: Foster; Femenia, Cathcart, Troost-Ekong, Rose; Kucka, Sissoko; Sarr, Cleverley, Hernandez; Dennis

  • Watford have failed to score in five of their last seven Premier League games
  • Five of Watford’s last seven Premier League games have ended with under 2.5 goals
