Genoa vs Bologna Predictions

  • Genoa have been relegated after winning just four Serie A games all season.
  • However, the hosts have won back-to-back home games, while Bologna’s last away win came in December.
  • Under 2.5 goals have been scored in 12 of Genoa’s last 15 games.
  • Genoa are Serie A’s lowest-scoring side, with just 27 goals in 37 games.

Can relegated Genoa rescue some pride?

Although Genoa have won three of their last eight games and each of their past two at home –  a vast improvement for a side which had just one Serie A win to their name after 29 games this term, Alexander Blessin’s team saw their relegation confirmed by a 3-0 loss at Napoli last week, with their dire attacking returns finally catching up to them.

Indeed, Genoa have scored the fewest goals (27), fewest home goals (14), and managed the fewest shots on target (102) in Serie A this season, as well as failing to score in seven of their last 11 games. Since early November, Genoa have played 27 games in all competitions, but only scored multiple goals on one occasion, when a last-gasp penalty saw them down Juventus 2-1 in their last home match, demonstrating their remarkable failings in the final third.

Sinisa Mihajlovic’s Bologna, meanwhile, can only finish as high as 12th or as low as 13th this term, having followed up a six-match unbeaten run, four of which were draws against top-six opponents, with disappointing back-to-back losses against Venezia and Sassuolo. Indeed, despite the hosts’ terrible campaign, Bologna may not be worth backing for a win after failing to win on the road in 2022.

Low-scoring affair likely with nothing at stake

Given Bologna have not won on their travels since doing so at Sassuolo shortly before Christmas, the results markets might be best overlooked for Saturday’s end-of-season encounter, in which neither side has anything to play for.

Considering Genoa’s horrendous attacking record, as well as the fact 12 of their last 15 games have seen under 2.5 goals scored, another low-scoring affair looks likely, with a tight 1-1 draw a decent correct score prediction.
