Reason For Moreirense vs Sporting Lisbon Betting Tips

Can Sporting put their difficult 2017/18 campaign behind them when they take on Moreirense this weekend? They return to action on Sunday, and they’re aiming to kick off the campaign with three points. However, the hosts will be out to catch the Lisbon giants off guard in the opening weekend, especially given all that has been going on with the Lions over the last few months. This isn’t going to be an easy opener for the visitors, but can Moreirense grab the huge opportunity in front of them?

It’s fair to say this has been a busy summer for Sporting. They saw all out civil war between fans and the club, and the players going up against the chairman. They ended last season on a low, missing out on Champions League football, and losing to lowly Aves in the Portuguese cup final. Of course, their low moment came when a group of fans attacked the players on the training pitch. Many top stars then cancelled their contracts, which saw club favourites like William Carvalho and Rui Patricio depart.

Sporting need to regroup after their difficult few months, and with a new board and new manager in place they have moved forward. They managed to bring the likes of Bas Dost and Bruno Fernandes back to the club, following their contract cancellations earlier in the summer. That’s given them a brighter outlook for this campaign, and they’ll be out to start on a high when they face a Moreirense side who are once again worried about survival this season.

The hosts will know that the decisive games for them are further down the road. They have to worry about the sides around them, but a scalp at home to Sporting would be huge. Don’t expect Moreirense to sit off this weekend, they’ll be out to better the 1-1 draw they recorded in this fixture last season. While they did conceded in 85% of their league games, they still have enough presence up front in order to hurt a poor Sporting defence.

The visitors conceded in 82% of their away trips last season, seeing both teams score in 71% of their games. They conceded 83% of their goals on the road, and that was before losing their star goalkeeper and holding midfielder in Patricio and Carvalho. We see this Sporting side being weakened here, so we’re backing BTTS to land in another one of their away trips. We also think there’s value in backing Bas Dost to score any time, as his return to the club is a crucial move, after 61 goals in 59 starts in his two year spell in the Portuguese capital.
