The new EFL season gets underway next weekend and we’ve got a relegation tip and a pick from the regional markets ahead of the start of the League One 2026-27 campaign.
League One 2026-27 Relegation Predictions
Burton Albion to be relegated at 11/8
Burton Albion avoided the drop by only five points last season and a summer of upheaval suggests another relegation fight awaits.
Manager Gary Bowyer remains in charge, although with a win percentage of just 31.7 per cent it is not a guarantee that is a good thing, but 15 first-team players have left the club.
While not all of those players were key members of the squad, it still leaves a number of holes to fill and could cause chemistry issues with so many new faces around.
Promoted trio Bromley, Cambridge and Notts County are also among the candidates to be relegated. However, all three performed brilliantly in League Two last season and have momentum behind them, something Burton have rarely enjoyed in the Bowyer era.
Burton have brought in some average players who raise the bar nowhere near enough to suggest they will fare any better this term than they did last season, and they may end up dropping out of League One.
League One 2026-27 Regional Winner Predictions
MK Dons top south east club at 7/4
MK Dons have made some eye-catching signings following promotion and should be backed to be best of the South East teams – a market that pits them against Reading, Oxford, and Wycombe Wanderers.
Ryan Wintle was one of the Championship’s best midfielders just a few years ago and will bring some bite and composure to the engine room, as will fellow new boy Daniel Barlaser.
Charlie Goode and Cohen Bramell are smart additions at the back and there is enough cash left for them to strengthen further.
Manager Paul Warne is also among the best tacticians in the league and they make far more appeal in the Top South East Club market than any of their local rivals.
After adding Steve Cook, Cauley Woodrow and Matt Macey, Wycombe are the main danger. However, manager Michael Duff lacks the nous of MK Dons boss Warne, which could prove the difference.
Reading look set for another mid-table finish and can be ignored while relegated Oxford are too much of an unknown entity to trust.
