The Sony Open takes place in Hawaii this week and there is also a team event to look forward to as the UAE hosts the Hero Cup.
We’ve called on Racing Post golf expert Steve Palmer once again for his tips, and he’s come up with this 142/1 double – which as always he recommends backing as an each-way bet.
142/1 Hero Cup & Sony Open Double Tip
The inaugural Hero Cup starts in the United Arab Emirates on Friday morning and it looks set to be a tight contest throughout.
A Great Britain and Ireland team goes up against Continental Europe at Abu Dhabi Golf Club over three days, with one session of fourballs, two sessions of foursomes and one session of singles, and these evenly matched sides could easily serve up a 12.5 points apiece draw come Sunday afternoon.
A draw would be the perfect result for European Ryder Cup captain Luke Donald, given that members of both GB and the Continentals will probably be featuring on Team Europe against the USA in September, and 12/1 seems a fair price for that eventuality.
The Hero Cup draw can be put with Tom Kim to win the Sony Open in Hawaii (10/1) in an attractive 142/1 double.
Kim continues to make rapid progress in his career, having won twice on the PGA Tour at the age of 20.
The Korean starlet has been turning up for course debuts and looking like he has decades of experience – as he did when finding 17 greens in regulation on his first look at the Plantation Course in Maui last week. Kim is clearly a special talent – able to adjust quickly to new terrain – and this week’s Waialae Country Club venue is a dreamy set-up for him.
Kim is supremely accurate and typically lethal on and around the greens – the perfect attributes to rip Waialae to shreds. Kim finished fifth on his Sentry Tournament of Champions debut last week and can go even better in the second leg of the PGA Tour’s Hawaii Swing.
His maiden Tour title came on a short par-70 in the Wyndham Championship in August – and his third could be coming on a short par-70 on Sunday.
