This week’s PGA Tour action comes from Torrey Pines with the Farmers Insurance Open, while at the Emirates Golf Club the Dubai Desert Classic takes place on the European Tour.

Racing Post golf expert Joseph Champion has picked his winners for the two events and together they combine for a 151/1 double, which he recommends backing as an each-way bet covering the top five places in each tournament.

Farmers Insurance Open & Dubai Desert Classic Winners Double

Golf fans are in for a treat this week with nine of the world’s top ten players in action across two tournaments – the PGA Tour’s Farmers Insurance Open and the Dubai Desert Classic on the DP World Tour – and we’re tipping a 151/1 each-way double across the two events.

Jon Rahm headlines the Farmers – which punters should note starts on Wednesday at his beloved Torrey Pines – and there are reasons to think that the 7/1 on offer about the favourite could look like decent value come Saturday evening.

Rahm has a fine record at Torrey, winning the 2017 Farmers and the 2021 US Open. He also finished fifth in the 2019 Farmers, was a runner-up in 2020 and seventh last year and his prodigious driving is built for the brutally long South Course.

Rahm, 14th at the Amex last week despite a frustrating putting performance, was previously second to Cameron Smith at the Tournament of Champions on his first start of 2022 and, with his game in such superb order, he should go close again.

Rory McIlroy, Viktor Hovland and Collin Morikawa dominate the market in Dubai but it’s Tyrrell Hatton who makes the most appeal at slightly longer odds in this Desert Classic dust-up.

After a solid start in Abu Dhabi last week, Hatton carded a terrible second-round 77 in difficult conditions before a nine at the par-five 18th in the third round completely took the wind out of his sails.

After that blow, however, there was a lot to like about Hatton’s final-round response as he made four birdies and an eagle to sign off with a 67 and a share of sixth place.

Calmer conditions in Dubai should allow the Englishman to go flag hunting at a track where he has produced three previous top-ten finishes. Watch out if the putter warms up.
