The World Wide Technology Championship at Mayakoba takes place in Mexico on the PGA Tour this week and in Europe the action comes from the Portugal Masters Open.

Our golf expert Steve Palmer is back with a winners double ahead of the two events and you can see his selections below, and don’t forget to check out our dedicated Golf Tips and the rest of our Sports Tips too!

Mayakoba & Portugal Masters Winners Double

Local hero Abraham Ancer can lead a 493/1 double for us this week – the Mexican has jetted home to compete on a course which is ideal for him.

Ancer has been a regular contender in the annual PGA Tour gathering at El Camaleon, Playa del Carmen, with form figures of 9-21-8-12 from his last four visits.

The difference this year, though, is that he has arrived as a PGA Tour champion. Ancer got off the mark in the WGC-St Jude Invitational in August, finally shedding his maiden tag after a series of unlucky near-misses, and he has been playing with confidence and freedom since.

Defeating a top-class WGC field in Memphis has shown Ancer that he belongs in the elite and the world number 14 will expect to make a serious impression in less formidable company over the next four days.

Ancer played in the final group of the CJ Cup last time out, fading as Rory McIlroy dominated the denouement, but there is no McIlroy to worry about in Mexico. If the likes of Justin Thomas and Brooks Koepka fail to apply themselves properly at the end of a long season, highly motivated 18/1 chance Ancer can give the Mexican galleries what they want.

Pair Ancer in an each-way double with Min Woo Lee, an exceptional talent who has been roaring up the world rankings. The 23-year-old Australian, ranked 58th on the planet, finished second in the Andalucia Masters at Valderrama last time out. That bold effort on a tight track where he had to rein in his power was eye catching.

This week’s Dom Pedro Victoria layout in sunny Vilamoura allows him to open his shoulders much more and the Scottish Open champion can be expected to make merry and threaten a third European Tour triumph.
