Beterbiev Jr vs Yarde prediction and fight preview

This is Yarde’s second attempt to become a world champion, having come up short in an 11th round TKO defeat to Sergey Kovalev back in 2019.

The Londoner is facing one of the pound-for-pound kings in Beterbiev, as the Russian-Canadian has a perfect record with 18 wins in as many attempts – with all of those victories coming inside the distance – after turning professional following an exceptional career as an amateur.

Yarde also has an impressive record with 22 of his 23 victories coming via stoppages but he has lost twice, once to Kovalev and then a shock points defeat to Lydon Arthur – although he avenged that loss with a fourth round win just over a year ago.

Beterbiev is the huge favourite at 1/7 and it would be a surprise if 9/2 shot Yarde were to claim the titles, but the 31-year-old does boast incredible power himself so he clearly has a chance against a very talented fighter.

An early finish seems almost inevitable in this light heavyweight world title fight and that makes the above new customer offer from William Hill particularly interesting. If you fancy Beterbiev to get the job done by KO/TKO you can get 20/1, while a win for Yarde via the same method is 150/1.

With Beterbiev such a heavy favourite but Yarde clearly dangerous, picking out a best bet for this contest is a tough task but over 6.5 rounds at 11/10 looks a reasonable option.

The champion is technically the better boxer and boasts a 100% knockout record but Yarde also has exceptional power and is the home fighter, so this should be a far closer match-up than the odds suggest even if ultimately Beterbiev does come out on top.

Beterbiev has only won one of his last four fights before the ninth round, while Yarde’s only stoppage came in the 11th round and that was against another big puncher in Kovalev. This fight should finish early, but we should make it into the second half of the contest so backing over 6.5 rounds looks a solid option.
