Charles Schwab & Soudal Open tips with 70/1 double

The Charles Schwab Challenge takes centre stage on the PGA Tour this week and the DP World Tour action comes from the Soudal Open in Belgium.

We’ve called on RFO tipster Ian Wilkerson for his thoughts ahead of the two events and he’s picked a winner for each event, and together they combine for a 70/1 double.

All prices quoted come from bet365 and new customers can take advantage of their sign-up offer using the button below. We recommend covering the each-way option if backing the double, but as a single bet the Charles Schwab tip is worth backing as a straightforward outright win.

Xander Schauffele will be taking the week off after breaking his Major duck at the US PGA Championship on Sunday, but even if he had lined up at the Charles Schwab Challenge, it is unlikely he would have taken much limelight away from Scottie Scheffler.

The world number one rallied to finish eighth at Valhalla in a week that was extraordinary from a personal perspective and he is hot favourite to win back in his home state of Texas at Colonial this week.

Meanwhile, the DP World Tour is back in action and England’s Jordan Smith is favourite for the Soudal Open in Belgium, for the first European tournament of the year.

Charles Schwab Challenge – Scottie Scheffler at 11/4

Golf punters are beginning to get used to Scottie Scheffler going off at short prices for tournaments, but the enthusiasm for his chances at Colonial looks justified despite his hectic week.

Having just become a father, the usually unflappable Texan then became embroiled in an altercation with a Kentucky traffic police officer that led to his arrest before the second round.

A 73 the following day that took him out of contention was perhaps understandable, but Scheffler bounced back with a closing 65, showing no ill-effects from his ordeal, which suggests it should be business as usual now he is back in his home state.

Colonial is a tight track where accuracy tends to be rewarded, and that will be no issue for Scheffler, who has solid course form, having finished third last year and losing in a playoff to Sam Burns in 2022.

It is difficult to find reasons not to back him and the fact that his closest market rivals are uninspiring encourages the thought that he can claim a fifth victory in seven tournaments.

Soudal Open – Adrian Otaegui at 18/1

Apart from a few co-sanctioned events, the DP World Tour will be in Europe until October and a tight test awaits the Soudal Open hopefuls at the Rinkven International in Belgium this week.

Six par-fours on the Antwerp track measure less than 400 yards and accuracy will be key, which is good news for fans of Spaniard Adrian Otaegui.

He was triumphant at the venue in 2018 in the Belgian Knockout, when a series of matches had to be won over the weekend – this is the third year the tournament has returned to a traditional strokeplay event.

Not only does the five-time DPWT winner top the tour’s driving accuracy charts, but he heads into competition fresh off a victory in the China Open, so this represents a good opportunity for him to double up.
