Pebble Beach & Bahrain Championship tips with 189/1 golf double

Pebble Beach & Bahrain Championship tips with 189/1 golf double

There have been four shocks to begin the season on the PGA Tour with Chris Kirk, Grayson Murray, Nick Dunlap and Mathieu Pavon all winning at treble-figure odds but a host of stars will be aiming to bring an end to that run at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am this week.

Pebble Beach Golf Links, an iconic course but not always a regular destination for some of golf’s biggest names, plays host to this $20million signature event while the DP World Tour action comes via the newly created Bahrain Championship.

Racing & Football Outlook golf tipster Joe Champion has scoured the field in both events to put together an each-way double which pays out at 189/1. We’ve used bet365 for the prices in this article and new customers can take advantage of their sign-up offer using the button below.

AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am winner prediction – Jordan Spieth at 18/1

The introduction of signature events has not been universally well received but it does mean that Rory McIlroy, Scottie Scheffler and several other heavyweights make a rare start in the Pebble Beach Pro-Am.

Three courses were previously used for this event but, with the field size reduced to 80, Monterey Peninsula has been dropped. The players will now rotate around Pebble Beach and tough Spyglass Hill over Thursday and Friday with the weekend action at Pebble.

Both courses are short, so tee-to-green precision tends to trump power, while a hot putter is also a significant asset as the winning score has been 17 under par or better in each of the last nine editions.

McIlroy and Scheffler head the betting but McIlroy missed the cut in his only previous start in the event in 2018 while Scheffler has never played in it and he failed to make the weekend in the 2019 Pebble Beach US Open won by Gary Woodland.

A few Pebble Beach regulars look more enticing with 2017 winner Jordan Spieth rated the best option at the available odds.

In addition to his win, Spieth has five other top-ten finishes in this tournament to his name and he was in fine form when we last saw him, finishing third and putting superbly at The Sentry.

He hasn’t won since The Heritage in April 2022 but Spieth always has Pebble Beach circled on his calendar and he’s undoubtedly more comfortable than most at the venue.

Bahrain Championship winner prediction – Rasmus Hojgaard at 9/1

The 2011 Volvo Golf Champions event marked the last time the DP World Tour visited Bahrain but the island nation returns to the schedule with the Bahrain Championship at The Royal.

There’s minimal course form to work with but The Royal, which also hosted the VGC, is a
typical desert layout where big hitters with hot putters came to the fore 13 years ago, so it’s not dissimilar to last week’s Ras Al Khaimah test at Al Hamra.

Ras Al Khaimah champion Thorbjorn Olesen has withdrawn but the man who finished second, Rasmus Hojgaard, is a deserving favourite at double-figure odds in his bid to go one better.

Hojgaard’s last six starts, five of which came in the Middle East, produced form figures of 16-6-11-11-11-2. The Dane has been putting superbly and this could be the week he lands his fifth DP World Tour title aged just 22.
