AC Milan vs Sampdoria Predictions

  • AC Milan have won four of their last six league matches.
  • Sampdoria have won on just one of their last eight outings.
  • Both teams have scored in 10 of Sampdoria’s last 13 games, and in five of the last eight to feature Milan.

Rossoneri keep double hopes alive

AC Milan kept their hopes of a first Scudetto since 2011 alive with a huge derby win at Inter last weekend before making the semi-finals of the Coppa Italia, which they’ve not won sine 2003, with a 4-0 thrashing of Lazio on Wednesday. With the other four of Italy’s top five in action against one another this weekend, Stefano Pioli’s men must now seize the initiative against Sampdoria.

Milan come into this contest in good form; the Rossoneri have won four of their last six league matches, and won six of their last eight in all competitions if counting an extra-time cup win over Genoa. Besides an unfortunate loss to Spezia, only against Juventus have Pioli’s men failed to win in 2022, and they have now scored 20 goals in their last eight outings.

The home side should be confident of continuing their strong run of form against Sampdoria. New boss Marco Giampaolo, who had an ill-fated seven-match spell in the Milan dugout in 2019, saw his team claim their first win of his tenure last week, thrashing Sassuolo 4-0. While that was Samp’s first win in eight outings, they have tended to be competitive; both teams have scored in 10 of their last 13 games, and only Napoli and Spezia have shut them out since the end of October.

Back Rossoneri to stay on track, but Samp to land a blow

Considering the form of the home side, who have been rejuvenated since the clearing of a festive injury crisis, we are backing the Rossoneri to continue to apply pressure at the Serie A summit with another win.

However, both teams have scored in five of Milan’s last eight games, and Pioli’s men have averaged close to a concession per game at San Siro this season. For that reason, we’re backing a Milan win with both teams scoring.

Meanwhile, a 3-1 home win could be a decent correct score prediction, with Milan beating a -1 handicap five times in their last eight matches.
