Reason for tip

PSV 2-1

Reason for tip

PSV have scored at least two goals in all of their away league fixtures this term and conceded exactly once in four of them. Ajax can score against PSV but may lack the quality and variety up front to get a second.

Ajax may need to find another gear in De Topper

Beating their two greatest domestic rivals in the space of a few days may be too much of an ask for Ajax when they face runaway Eredivisie leaders PSV at Johan Cruijff Arena on Saturday evening.

The Amsterdam club are back in the title race after their midweek win over Feyenoord cut PSV’s lead to eight points with Francesco Faraoli’s side also having a game in hand.  It was a solid win built on a a clever tactical plan to exploit space behind Feyenoord’s high defensive line and Ajax demonstrated plenty of defensive steel to stay in charge after going 2-0 up.

But they may need to go up another gear to beat PSV, who won their 10th league game in a row last weekend when thrashing PEC Zwolle 6-0 at Philips Stadion. That result came on the back of a very good away Champions League point gained at Paris Saint-Germain and was achieved without the services of four key players who were the cornerstones of their title-winning side last term.

Lang looks capable against his former club

Peter Bosz’s team may just be too strong and have too much variety in their play for Ajax, who have failed to convince in a couple of narrow 1-0 home wins over strugglers like Willem II and Heerenveen. Even Heracles gave them a headache in a 4-3 away win last month.

Considering this and that Ajax have not beaten PSV in their last seven meetings (five defeats, two draws), it is worth taking the 6/5 on offer about the visitors to win in Amsterdam.

Also, look for boyhood Ajax fan and ex-player Noah Lang to get on the scoresheet after he embarked on a purple patch with three goals in his last three games for PSV.
