Livi have taste for more League Cup success

Alloa Athletic got their League Cup campaign off to the worst possible start when they were turned over at home by a team from the division below.

Despite enjoying the bulk of possession against Cowdenbeath, the Wasps were stung by a second-half Liam Buchanan strike and now need to respond.

But it will be tough against Premiership opposition and a side that enjoyed a terrific run that included 22 goals and four clean sheets in this competition last season under David Martindale.

Livingston appear to have their League Cup appetite back already and smashed Highland League Brechin City 3-0 in their opener.

The Lions gave debuts to four new players last weekend and look to have strengthened well in all areas during the summer.

The Wasps home record also doesn’t create any belief that they can avoid another defeat on Saturday.

Alloa Athletic will try to stay solid, but Livingston should do enough damage to cover a one-goal handicap – as they have done in six of their last nine League Cup outings.

With Livi having yet to concede a goal in either of their pre-season games, our forecast here is for a routine 2-0 away win at Indodrill Stadium.
