Dundee will probably be pleased to see Airdrieonians as their first opponents in the Scottish League Cup after collecting two comfortable cup victories over the Championship side last season.

The Taysiders, who will be playing their first competitive match under Steven Pressley’s stewardship, beat these opponents 6-1 in this competition and then 5-0 in the fifth round of the Scottish Cup, but there looks a strong chance this one could be a bit tighter.

Airdrie can display some resolve

Airdrie were hopeful of a promotion challenge last season, but they slipped to ninth in the second tier and had to come through playoffs against Stenhousemuir and Cove Rangers to maintain their status.

However, their defensive play improved in the closing weeks of the season and the fact this is Dundee’s first outing of teh campaign may mean this is a closer encounter than last term’s get-together’s so go for both teams finding the net with the Premiership side posting a hard-fought 2-1 win.
