Arminia Bielefeld vs Wolfsburg Predictions & Tips

Wolfsburg made Mark van Bommel the first managerial casualty of the Bundesliga season last month after an 8-game winless run, and have been rewarded with three consecutive victories under successor Florian Kohfeldt.

Kohfeldt is looking to rebuild his reputation after overseeing Werder Bremen’s relegation last term. His aggressive style seems better suited to Wolfsburg than van Bommel’s rather sterile possession game, and he has already overseen impressive wins over Leverkusen and Red Bull Salzburg.

Arminia Bielefeld claimed their first win of the Bundesliga season at the eleventh time of asking a fortnight ago, winning 1-0 at fellow strugglers Stuttgart. Frank Kramer’s side are still mired in the relegation zone, however, and are without a home win in all competitions this season.

The Wolves to Edge a Tight Affair?

Wolfsburg were renowned for their solidity last year, and despite scoring just 12 goals this season and changing coach twice in 5 months, sit 4th in the table and look well placed for another run at Champions League qualification. Wolfsburg have also won their last 6 matches against Saturday’s opponents by an aggregate score of 17-2. Arminia, meanwhile, have scored just 7 league goals this season, and are also one of the least creative teams in the league based on expected goals, creating less than 1 expected goal per game.

Although I’m tipping Champions League-chasing Wolfsburg to maintain their new manager bounce, expect a hard-fought encounter between two miserly teams. Only 3 of Arminia’s 11 games have been decided by anything more than a one-goal margin, making a 1-0 away win looking a decent correct score prediction.
