Arouca vs Maritimo Predictions

Maritimo still have wind in their sails 

Monday’s trip to the mainland could be plain sailing for Maritimo as hosts Arouca are stuck in the midst of a dismal home run.

Armando Evangelista’s side have lost their last four at home and went down 2-0 at home to Porto last Sunday without laying a glove on the Primeira Liga leaders. They won’t be so cautious against mid-table Maritimo, but that could be their undoing as the visitors have become one of the most consistent clubs in Portugal outside the big three.

The Greatest of the Islands can boast a record of five wins, three draws and only two defeats in their last ten and those losses came to a couple of the big boys – Porto and Benfica. Maritimo have won at both eighth-placed Portimonense and fourth-placed Braga already this year and have Porto a bit of a scare last month when they went down 2-1 at the Dragao.

Players missing for visitors are not key ones

They will be without a couple of players through injury and suspension for this one, but neither are among their top ten performers this season. Maritimo’s recent run has been built on a solid defence that has conceded fewer goals than any other team in Portugal’s top-flight across the last six fixtures.

Given Arouca haven’t scored in four of their last six games and their last three at the Estadio Municipal, Maritimo could earn a clean sheet, but they are not used to blanking opponents on their travels.
