Braga to Win and Under 2.5 Match Goals

Reason for tip

Braga have won the last 13 competitive derby matches and should continue that trend because they are already three competitive games into their campaign while Moreirense have been inconsistent in pre-season. They have failed to score in four of their last seven home league matches and, because Braga have scored exactly one goal in four of their last six away games, an away win with over 2.5 goals could be on the cards.

Braga 1-0

Reason for tip

Braga have scored no more than two goals in nine of their last 10 away games and would settle for 1-0 if Moreirense, who have failed to score in four of their last seven home games , cannot make any attacking inroads again.

Braga set to retain derby bragging rights

Moreirense and Braga open their Liga Portugal campaigns on Sunday night in Moreira de Cónegos, with the visitors entering the derby as the favourites. History and form are on the Arsenalistas’ side as they look to build on their 1-0 midweek win over Dinamo Minsk and extend their run of wins in this fixture to 14.

The Canons have had a mixed pre‑season campaign with their highlights being a 2‑0 win over Amarante and some lively displays from Nile John. But Vasco Botelho da Costa’s side still lack consistency in the final third.

Braga, meanwhile, arrive unbeaten in eight matches and fresh from a controlled 1‑0 Europa League qualifying win over Dinamo Minsk. Carlos Vicens’ team dominated possession and territory, even if their finishing lacked bite.

1-0 to the Arsenalistas on the cards

Ricardo Horta remains the fulcrum of their attacking play – the Portuguese international has scored in all three official games this season. Braga kept clean sheets in all three, and that looks like being their method of victory in this derby.

Moreirense’s last home win over Braga came in 2019, and across 34 encounters the Warriors lead 23‑5. The hosts can be competitive if they strike first, but Braga are already in a decent rhythm, so their depth and attacking reliability give them the edge.

Back Braga to win with fewer than three goals, as they rarely go through the gears enough to rack up wide-margin wins, with 1-0 often the eventual outcome.
