Moreirense vs Braga Predictions

  • Sporting Braga have won only two of their last seven Primeira Liga away games.
  • Moreirense have lost only four of their last 18 home league games (since start of last season).
  • Four of Moreirense’s last ten home league games have finished 1-1, including matches against Benfica and Sporting Lisbon.

Braga could come unstuck in derby

Sporting Braga were unlucky to lose to Sporting Lisbon last weekend, going down 2-1 at home to the champions in a game they dominated.

But this Friday’s derby against Moreirense may be a tougher test in many ways as Carlos Carvahal’s men meet one of the most physical sides in Portugal.

João Henriques’ side have been penalised for 42 fouls across their first two games when pushing 10-man Benfica close in a 2-1 home defeat before scoring twice after the 90th minute to grab a 2-2 draw at Santa Clara.

The Green and Whites take no prisoners and will be well up for this clash as they try to rectify their poor recent record against the Arsenalistas.

Last weekend’s draw in the Azores against the side that finished sixth last term was a good result given Moreirense were without Abdu Conté, Galego, Walterson, Pedro Amador and Nikola Jambor.

Braga’s most important attacking midfielder Ricardo Horta missed out last week with muscle fatigue, so could return, but they sold central midfielder Fransergio to Bordeaux this week and are still without Sequeira and Castro due to injury.

It feels like a game where Braga could easily slip up and the odds-on price really doesn’t look attractive when you look at the visitors recent away league record of just two wins in the last seven.

Add to that Moreirense’s impressive sequence of avoiding defeat at home (only four in their last 18) and we are fully on board with the home side in the double chance market.

A 1-1 draw could well be on the cards because 40% of Moreirense’s home league games since February have finished with that score.
