Aston Villa vs Leicester City Predictions
- Leicester have conceded 14 goals in their last four Premier League away games
- Aston Villa are unbeaten in their last nine league outings at Villa Park
- Both teams have scored in seven of Villa’s last nine home league matches
Worrying times for Leicester
Leicester have taken the plunge by appointing Ruud van Nistelrooy as Steven Cooper’s replacement, but an immediate Championship return appears to be beckoning and their life could get tougher after a trip to Villa Park.
The Foxes have claimed a full return in just one of their last 11 league matches and that 3-1 home victory over West Ham flattered the East Midlands outfit, so there is a lot of work for the Dutchman to do to keep City in the top flight.
That win over the Hammers was the only occasion in their last nine games that the Foxes have not conceded at least twice and while Villa are struggling to match their achievements of last season, when they finished fourth, this looks a daunting trip for Van Nistelrooy’s side.
Villa in the groove on their own patch
Unai Emery’s Villa have had to juggle their Premier League and Champions League commitments this season and while that has been testing at times, they are unbeaten in the league at home since they lost their opener 2-0 to Arsenal.
It would be a big surprise if they fell to defeat in this one, but it is worth considering that they have kept just two clean sheets in 14 home league games when analysing potential correct-score bets.
Ten of their last 14 league matches at Villa Park have featured at least three goals, so it is worth looking at a home win with more than two goals and a 3-1 final score.
Watkins has a point to prove
Striker Ollie Watkins had to settle for a place on the Villa bench for four successive games before John Duran’s suspension gave him the chance to start the 2-2 draw against Brighton.
Watkins netted from the spot in that game and he should get another chance to impress with Duran still banned following his recent red card at Newcastle and a one-game suspension for Morgan Rogers means Watkins will have to play a starring role in the Villa attack.
However, the England centre forward should rise to the occasion as he attempts to send a message to Emery that he should be re-established as Villa’s main man.
