Aston Villa vs Luton Predictions

- The Villains have averaged 4.25 goals per home game this term
- Douglas Luiz has scored in six straight league games at Villa Park
Stellar year for Emery
Aston Villa picked up another win in midweek hammering AZ 4-1 away from home in Europe. They built upon Sunday’s 4-1 victory over West Ham, which pushed the Villains into the Champions League mix.
Earlier this week, Unai Emery marked a year in charge of Aston Villa, having taken over with the side struggling against the drop after a terrible start under Steven Gerrard. Within a year, he’s taken them into Europe, got them thriving in the Conference League and they’re up to fifth in the league.
Now the Villains look to build on that against Luton on Sunday.
Luton up against it
Luton are just outside the relegation zone with five points, but they’ve lost six of their first nine matches at this level. They are proving more equipped for the Premier League than many predicted ahead of the season, but heavy losses to both Chelsea and Brighton show that the Hatters struggle to contain the league’s top teams.
Sunday sends them to one of the league’s top sides. Villa are among the leading scorers in the league and they should rack up even more given their great run of home form.
Incredible home run for Villa
Aston Villa have have won each of their last 11 home Premier League games, turning Villa Park into a fortress. They’ve also averaged 4.25 goals per game at home, with each of their four home games featuring at least four goals.
Luton have found their own scoring touch, having found the net twice in each of their last two trips. They played out a 2-2 draw with Nottingham Forest in their last game on the road. They’ll struggle to match that at Villa, while their defending is a concern given how good the hosts look going forward.
The driving force behind Villa’s great run has been Douglas Luiz. The ex-Man City midfielder has scored in each of their last six home league matches, including a brace against West Ham last weekend. He’s a threat from set pieces and their penalty taker, while he’s a threat from open play too.
The fact that a holding midfielder is getting so many chances shows how threatening this Villa side is. Given their streak of high-scoring games, back over 3.5 when Luton head to town, with a 4-1 home win my prediction.
