Athletic Bilbao 1-0

Reason for tip

Osasuna have failed to score in four successive fixtures, a run which includes a 1-0 defeat to Valencia. Athletic Bilbao have kept five clean sheets in their last nine outings at San Mames, where they beat Espanyol and Villarreal 1-0

Athletic Bilbao vs Osasuna Predictions

  • Five of Athletic Bilbao’s last seven home games have seen two goals or fewer scored
  • There have been under three strikes in 16 of Osasuna’s last 17 outings
  • Bilbao have failed to net in four of their last five outings

Can Athletic Bilbao turn the tie around?

A goal from Abdessamad Ezzalzouli in the first leg of this Copa del Rey last four clash means Athletic Bilbao trail 1-0 and have it all to do if they’re going to reach the final for the third time in four seasons.

Worryingly, though, goals have been a real problem of late, with Ernesto Valverde’s side failing to score in four of their last five outings, including a 0-0 draw against Getafe at the weekend.

That means goals have been few and far between in their recent matches, with just two of the last seven at San Mames containing in excess of two strikes.

Osasuna hoping to make history

That bodes well for Osasuna, who are hoping to reach the Copa del Rey final for just the second time in their history, having finished as runners-up to Real Betis in 2004/05.

They will surely be looking to keep the game tight and frustrate their opposition, as they have done in several games recently by keeping clean sheets in three of their last five outings.

One of those, of course, was against Bilbao in the first leg of this tie, but they have also drawn 0-0 at Mallorca and Real Valladolid over the last six weeks.

Jagoba Arrasate will be hoping for more of the same from his team, who have conceded only 13 times in their 14 away league games, while only one of their last 17 fixtures have contained three or more strikes.

I predict that there will be under three goals in this game, and extra-time might be required to separate the two sides, as 1-0 to Athletic Bilbao is my correct score prediction.
